Hello, I'm Dawn.
If your child needs support with reading, spelling, or primary school English, you're not alone. Many children simply need the right instruction, time, and encouragement to become confident readers and writers.
I believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn and experience success.
My approach is guided by structured literacy principles, where skills are taught explicitly, systematically and progressively. Rather than expecting children to work things out on their own, I aim to break learning into manageable steps, explain concepts clearly and provide opportunities for guided practice and review.
I strive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where children can learn at a pace suited to their needs, strengthen their skills and develop confidence along the way.
Every child has different strengths and areas for improvement, so I tailor my lessons to each student's learning needs.
I create customised worksheets and learning activities to reinforce concepts taught during lessons and provide targeted practice. Where appropriate, I incorporate assessment books purchased by parents so that students can work on both personalised exercises and school-related practice.
My aim is to make learning purposeful and manageable, while helping students build skills progressively rather than simply completing exercises.
I also recognise that learning does not stop when a lesson ends. Where appropriate, I hope to support parents with practical suggestions that can be incorporated into everyday family life.
My hope is that each child I teach will not only strengthen their reading, spelling and English skills, but also grow in confidence and discover that learning can be a positive and rewarding experience.
